Preview:

Port Adelaide will be slight favourites to take the points here, when they play North Melbourne on Sunday, 4.10PM at Etihad Stadium.  With two wins from two games, Port have started their 2014 season just like they finished last season.  Port have also won five of its past seven games in Melbourne, including three of its past four at Etihad Stadium.  This game will be no easy win for Port Adelaide, however, with the Kangaroos keen to prove themselves against a top team early in the season.

News:

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has dismissed talk of his side as an AFL premiership contender as irrelevant.

Port have banked consecutive wins with stunning early season form but Hinkley doesn’t care for rising expectations from outside the club.

“We don’t even worry about it, we don’t talk about those sorts of things,” Hinkley told reporters on Thursday.

“As a football club last year we did talk about about getting what we deserve and we’re going to be same this year.

“We don’t control any of that (outside) stuff. It’s a 22 week season … we’re hopeful we can be as high as possible but we don’t know that that is.”

The Power travel to meet North Melbourne on Sunday after a hyped win against arch rival Adelaide in the first AFL match at a redeveloped Adelaide Oval last weekend.

Hinkley told his players to celebrate the historic win – and then quickly forget about it.

“The boys around the club are understanding that last week was a big game for us,” he said.

“But the important thing for us now is round three.

“We have got to make sure we switch back on and we have made a real point of moving on quickly after Monday and making sure we’re ready to go.”

Port were unlikely to make any changes to their side for the clash against a Kangaroos side which Hinkley described as “high class”.

“We expect them to certainly go up the ladder from where they were last year,” he said of the Roos.

“But it doesn’t matter who you play in the competition now, every game is so tight, every team is capable of some really good football.

“North Melbourne, we know their best is devastating. We have just got try and restrict them.

“It will be just a matter of trying to win the battle of getting the game played on the terms we want to play it on … it’s not so much about what North are, it’s more about what we have got to be.”
