Carlton chief executive Steven Trigg says the list of candidates to become the Blues’ next fulltime coach is below 20, with caretaker John Barker a leading contender.
Trigg says Barker has a “unique and ideal” place to impress for the role, with the small upturn in the AFL club’s fortunes – in which they’ve won two of their last three games after a woeful start to the season – impressing the Carlton hierarchy.
The selection panel has met three times, with no timeline set on confirming their senior coach for next season onwards as a permanent replacement after Mick Malthouse moved on in May.
