No AFL tribunal as Demon cops a week

The AFL tribunal won’t sit on Tuesday night after injured Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney accepted a one-game ban.

Viney, who will miss up to a month with a broken knuckle, was charged with striking Port Adelaide’s Brad Ebert in the Demons’ 45-point loss to the Power in Alice Springs.

Vision of the 22-year-old’s extraordinary outburst captured by the broadcaster shows him throwing three punches to Ebert’s head, the AFL match review panel assessing the incident as intentional but with low impact.

Viney risked a two-match suspension if he unsuccessfully challenged the MRP’s finding but he will miss between three and four games in any case after he underwent surgery on Monday afternoon.

All other players cited from round 10 action accepted fines.
