Naitanui to miss clash with AFL Blues

West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui will miss Friday’s AFL pre-season clash with Carlton due to a back injury, but the Eagles will welcome back a host of other stars.

Naitanui has been held out of the match at Rushton Park in Mandurah as a precaution, with West Coast confident the injury is only minor.

Jack Darling (foot) and Scott Selwood (ankle) are also unavailable for selection, with the duo almost certain to miss the start of the AFL season.

The Eagles will be bolstered by the inclusions of new captain Shannon Hurn, 2014 Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis, Mark LeCras, Josh Kennedy, and Chris Masten from the side that beat the Indigenous All Stars last week.

Rookie-listed former Blue Kane Lucas is a chance to feature against his former side after being named in West Coast’s 29-man squad.

Carlton have been unable to name several of their most prominent players including captain Marc Murphy, Andrew Walker, and Matthew Kreuzer due to injury.

Sam Rowe will skipper the side in the absence of Murphy, who is nursing calf tightness.

Blues coach Mick Malthouse won’t make the trip to Perth because his wife Nanette is undergoing investigative surgery on her abdomen on Friday.

Director of coaching Rob Wiley has been handed the reins for the match.

Carlton’s inexperienced squad includes Kade Simpson, Chris Yarran, and former Western Bulldogs key forward Liam Jones.
