Lloyd latest young gun to stay with Swans

Bit by bit Sydney are safeguarding their investment in youth, with midfielder Jake Lloyd the latest of their bumper crop of promising youngsters to re-commit to the AFL club.

Lloyd 22, has played 60 out of a possible 61 games since making his debut in round five of the 2014 season.

Primarily a midfielder and wingman, Lloyd was extremely effective at half back against Carlton last weekend.

He provides some outside speed to complement the inside grunt of warriors like Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dan Hannebery.

Lloyd, who has signed a two-year contract extension taking him to the end of the 2018 season, is almost a veteran compared to some of the players in the Swans side.

Seven debutants have been blooded this season, with the Swans quick to extend the contracts of three of those players.

Forwards George Hewett and Tom Papley both aged 20 and 21-year-old defender Aliir Aliir are all also tied to the club till the end of the 2018 season.

“It’s great to have another up-and-coming player recommit to the Swans, Sydney’s general manager of football Tom Harley said.

“Jake has been really consistent for us this year. His versatility is very important and he has developed trust amongst his team mates.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Jake continue to develop and take his game to the next level.

It’s not only the younger and emerging members of the Swans list who have recently renewed their commitment to the perennial AFL powerhouse.

Co-captain Kieren Jack, fellow midfielder Parker and and defender Nick Smith are contracted to the club until 2019, 2021 and 2018 respectively.

Ruckman Kurt Tippett had his contract extended to 2018 after meeting contract incentives, while defender Jeremy Laidler and 22-year-old utility Harry Cunningham have signed new deals in recent months.
