Kennelly gets Sydney Hall of Fame spot

AFL premiership star Tadhg Kennelly and 1918 premiership captain Jim Caldwell have been inducted into Sydney’s Hall of Fame.

Kennelly arrived at the club from Ireland in 1999, and had a career spanning 10 years, including the 2005 premiership triumph.

He returned to Ireland in 2008, and the following year became the first player to have claimed both an AFL premiership and All-Ireland medal, when he helped County Kerry to their title win.

Caldwell was remembered as one of the most celebrated players in the game, playing eleven seasons for South Melbourne and leading the club to a narrow grand final victory over Collingwood in 1918.

The pair were honoured on Wednesday night at the Swans’ annual guernsey presentation and induction dinner, where the achievements of Herbie Matthews were also celebrated.

The 1940 Brownlow medallist, a former Swans captain, coach, and five-time best and fairest winner, became the fifth player elevated to Bloods Legend status, joining Bob Pratt, Bob Skilton, Paul Kelly and Peter Bedford.
