Improving Tippett enjoys Buddy AFL show

Kurt Tippett credits fellow Sydney Swans forward Lance Franklin with improving his game and reckons he has the best seat in the house for the Buddy show.

The Swans have lost just one of 11 games this year when both men have played in the side.

In his first season at Sydney in 2013, former Crow Tippett was their leading goalkicker.

That title in 2014 will go to Franklin, the former Hawk, who has helped the Swans to the minor premiership in his first year at the club.

“He’s played a significant part in what we’ve been able to do this year,” Tippett said.

‘Obviously he’s fantastic player. I really enjoy playing alongside him, learning from him.

“Hopefully we’ve done that pretty well this year. I think I’ve improved as a result of that.

“Obviously you get to watch one of the best players go about his work and you get to learn.

“Also, the attention he demands from opposition teams and defenders I think that has freed me up a little bit and hopefully I’ve done the same for him.”

Franklin’s flair and athleticism often leave fans and media awestruck and Tippett admits to feeling the same way.

“Most certainly, I’ve got the best seat in the house sometimes,” Tippett said.

“You just watch and you just applaud him, give him a high five and say ‘c’mon mate, that’s awesome.’

“He’s great for the side and brings a lot of energy and to have someone in your team that can do those sort of things and changes the momentum of a game in an instant is fantastic.”

Tippett has played as the deep forward while Franklin has enjoyed more of a roving commission.

“I think we complement each other,” Tippett said.

“He loves getting out and running and we love seeing him do that because he’s fantastic at it.

“That allows me to play a bit closer to goal, and I think we’ve seen how hard it is when each other isn’t playing and that can be a difficult time.”
