Hannebery calls for Swans to help backline

Sydney midfield ace Dan Hannebery has called on all sections of the Swans team to help their back six subdue Adelaide’s potent attack in Saturday’s AFL semi-final at the SCG.

The Crows, who have kicked more goals than any other team in the competition, have already subjected Sydney to one torrid evening this season.

They kicked more goals – 16 – and scored more points – 113 – against Sydney than any other team this year, when they beat the Swans by 10 points at Adelaide Oval back in round four..

Hannebery stressed it would be a case of all hands to the defensive pump at the SCG against an Adelaide side coming off a 141-point offensive outburst against North Melbourne.

“Our defence is going to be like it was on the weekend, put under some serious pressure,” Hannebery said, referring to last Saturday’s loss to the GWS Giants.

“We’ve got to make sure we support them as a midfield and forward group to try and help them limit the supply to their dangerous forward line.”

.Hannebery was expecting an improved effort against the Crows after admitting GWS were too good for the minor premiers, but was adamant the Giants hadn’t caught the Swans off guard in the first all-Sydney AFL finals derby.

‘There was a number of areas we didn”t play to the standard we hold of ourselves,’ Hannebery said.

“We missed a lot of tackles, they made a lot of tackles

“We just didn’t maintain our hardness and our intensity for long enough.

“Looking back we were really disappointed with some of the things throughout the game.

“We want to try and get that right this week.”

The AFL has reportedly asked the Swans to outline the procedure they used prior to allowing Josh Kennedy to return from a bout of concussion last Saturday, but Hannbery was adamant his fellow midfielder had passed the appropriate test.

“He played really well (after coming back on) and was fine after the game so he was clearly right to come back on,” Hannebery said.
