THE STAKES could not be higher for Fremantle and Port Adelaide. No team has won the premiership from fifth place since the current AFL finals system was introduced in 2000. The loser of this match will finish fifth. The winner will gain the vital double chance. Port Adelaide won the previous encounter in round eight at Adelaide Oval but the Dockers had dominated the head-to-head battles before that winning the previous six clashes. Port Adelaide’s powerful offence was back to its best last week against Carlton and it will need to be on song against the Dockers, the second best defensive team in the competition.

THE SIX POINTS
1. Port Adelaide’s final score of 20.20 (140) against Carlton in round 22 was its highest since round four and the first time the Power had kicked three figures since round 17.

2. Port Adelaide’s win in round eight was its first over Fremantle since early 2009.

3. In 2014 the Dockers are 10-1 at Patersons Stadium and since the start of 2013 they have won 22 of 24 games, conceding an average score of only 61 points per game.

4. Port Adelaide last defeated Fremantle at Patersons Stadium in 2008. In 12 clashes at the venue the two teams have won six games each.

5. Aaron Sandilands is the number one hit-out ruckman in 2014 averaging 38 per game. But Fremantle is ranked eighth in the AFL for clearances. Port Adelaide is equal third.

6. Port Adelaide pair Hamish Hartlett (26.5 points) and Robbie Gray (26.4) were the two highest scoring players last week in the Official AFL Player Ratings. Port Adelaide has six players ranked in the top 100, while Fremantle has seven.
