Preview:
The Dockers take on North Melbourne in the other Friday night game, 6.45PM at Patersons Stadium.  Despite their loss last week to the Swans, Fremantle are in good form at the moment and will be big favourites to win against North.  Even without forwards Hayden Ballantyne (suspended) and Michael Walters (ankle), Fremantle should have enough to get past a North Melbourne side who has not beaten them in Perth since 2007.

News:

North Melbourne veteran Brent Harvey will be hoping to escape the pinch when he resumes his rivalry with Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley in Friday night’s AFL clash at Patersons Stadium.

Harvey was left visibly frustrated in his previous battle against Crowley, claiming the Docker had continually pinched him in North Melbourne’s 38-point loss in Perth last year.

Crowley strongly denied the accusations, with the bad blood setting the scene for a fiery re-match on Friday night.

Harvey was held to just 11 possessions against Crowley in the round 13 clash last year, with the pair engaging in a series of wrestles and sneaky jabs throughout the contest.

Crowley’s attempts to smooth the situation over with a friendly handshake after the final siren didn’t go down well with Harvey, and Kangaroos coach Brad Scott said that reaction was understandable.

“I’ve always been a big believer in what happens on the ground, stays on the ground. But you don’t have to be best mates afterwards either,” Scott said on Thursday.

“I don’t think there’s bitterness (between them), but I wouldn’t know.

“We’re all fierce competitors.”

Scott said it would take a team approach to nullify the effect of Crowley.

The Kangaroos will be bolstered by the return of Jack Ziebell and cult hero Majak Daw, but classy midfielder Daniel Wells will miss due to a foot injury.

Former Gold Coast defender Joel Tippett will make his Kangaroos debut in place of suspended fullback Scott Thompson.

Skipper Andrew Swallow (Achilles tendon) is set to make his long-awaited return via the VFL on Sunday, and he could be available for senior selection as early as next week.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon faces a battle to patch up his forward line due to the absence of goalsneaks Michael Walters (ankle) and Hayden Ballantyne (suspension).

With Colin Sylvia (suspension) and Josh Simpson also unavailable, Lyon has called on Chris Mayne to step up to the mark following his quiet start to the year.

Mayne booted 37 goals last season, but the 188cm forward managed just one major in four games this year.

“I wouldn’t have thought he was underdone – he just didn’t deliver,” Lyon said of Mayne’s poor return from an ankle injury against Sydney last week.

Four Fremantle players have copped suspensions this season, forcing Lyon to address the group about their discipline.

Simpson has been banished to the WAFL and fined an undisclosed amount after he chose not to board the team’s flight to Sydney last week as a travelling emergency.

The 20-year-old will return to training next week, but no date has been set on when he’ll be available for senior selection again.
