Franklin, Cotchin won’t face AFL tribunal

AFL stars Lance Franklin, Trent Cotchin and Nick Maxwell are all in the clear after the match review panel’s findings from round four.

But Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris faces a one-game ban for an incident that forced Greater Western Sydney opponent Will Hoskin-Elliott from the field.

Morris was charged with a level-three tripping offence from the Dogs’ win in Canberra on Saturday.

His good record means he can reduce his two-game suspension to one match with an early guilty plea.

Morris was cleared of serious injury after he and Hoskin-Elliott had a clash of legs.

Franklin was reported during Sunday’s loss to North Melbourne for striking opponent Scott Thompson, who kept him goalless.

Predictably, the panel threw out the charge.

Maxwell was scrutinised for a high bump on Cotchin during Collingwood’s Friday night win over Richmond.

But the panel ruled the Magpies defender did not use enough force to warrant a charge.

Cotchin had a poor night, with Collingwood tagger Brent Macaffer restricting him to just 13 disposals.

Cotchin’s frustration was evident in the last term when he tangled with Clinton Young, who laid a block on the Tigers star.

The panel ruled that Cotchin’s swinging-arm hit on Young did not deserve a charge.

Carlton ruckman Robbie Warnock was also predictably cleared of his match-day charge for striking Melbourne opponent Jake Spencer.
