Eight AFL players accept fines

Geelong captain Joel Selwood is among eight AFL players to accept fines after falling foul of the match review panel in round 10.

The tribunal will not sit on Tuesday, with Selwood and eight others submitting early pleas.

Selwood was docked $1000 for careless contact with umpire Shaun Ryan during the Cats’ 69-point win over Essendon.

Also on Tuesday, $1500 fines were dished out to Fremantle’s Michael Walters and Danyle Pearce, plus Richmond midfielder Shane Edwards.

Edwards was booked for being the instigator of a melee last Friday night during the Tigers’ 27-point win, while it was a second melee offence for Walters and Pearce.

Edwards was also fined $1000 for being involved in a melee, as were teammates Ty Vickery and Jack Riewoldt, and Fremantle’s Nick Suban.

North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson accepted a $1000 fine for tripping Mark LeCras during the Kangaroos’ 10-point win over West Coast.
