Dockers re-sign Matt de Boer in AFL

Fremantle midfielder Matt de Boer has re-signed for a further season, but the AFL future of defender Luke McPharlin remains up in the air.

De Boer missed just one game over the previous two seasons, but he could only manage 14 this year after being overtaken in the pecking order by some of the club’s promising youngsters.

The 24-year-old has been part of the club’s leadership group since 2011, but he faces a fight to establish a spot in the side next year.

DeBoer has played 115 games since being selected in the 2008 rookie draft.

McPharlin is widely tipped to retire after battling knee, quad and calf issues this year.

The 32-year-old veteran has been given some time to think about his decision, with a final call expected to be made within a fortnight.

Fremantle are keen to sign unrestricted free agent James Frawley, who is also being heavily chased by Geelong.

The Dockers have reportedly offered Frawley $3 million over five years to leave Melbourne and come their way.
