Docker test positive to banned substance

The future of Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley hangs in the balance after he tested positive to a banned substance under the AFL’s Anti-Doping Code.

Crowley returned the positive test after the club’s round 17 win against GWS last season.

The 31-year-old was issued with a show-cause notice last September, with Crowley voluntarily accepting a provisional suspension since that time.

Crowley is awaiting a hearing date to appear before the AFL Tribunal over the matter.

The 188-game veteran’s mysterious absence from pre-season games drew widespread questions last week, but the ASADA revelations have shed light on the matter.

Fremantle issued a statement where it said: “The commencement of the provisional suspension is not an admission of guilt or wrongdoing.”

Until the AFL Tribunal convenes and makes a finding, Crowley is allowed to train with his teammates during the provisional suspension.

Crowley has appointed independent legal advisers to assist him with the matter.

“I would like to thank my partner Samara, my family and the club for their support over the past few months. It has been invaluable,” Crowley said in a statement on Monday.

“I have my own legal advisers working on the matter and they have also been a great support.

“I will continue to fully cooperate on this matter with ASADA and the AFL. At this stage, I’m looking forward to AFL Tribunal hearing taking place.”

Fremantle president Steve Harris said it was crucial that the club provide Crowley with all the necessary support mechanisms required to deal with the matter.

“We have a continuing and ongoing duty of care for Ryan, both personally and professionally,” Harris said.

“Ryan’s ongoing health and capacity to cope with this matter have been key areas of focus for the support we have been providing him with.”
