Dempsey re-signs with ‘Dons in AFL

Essendon utility Courtenay Dempsey has signed a one-year contract, extending his AFL career into an 11th season.

The deal was announced a day after Brent Stanton also re-signed with the Bombers for another year.

Dempsey played 13 games this year, going forward late in the season.

“‘Woosha’ (new coach John Worsfold) has made it really clear what he expects from me this season,” Dempsey said.

“I’m excited about tackling this pre-season head on and as a team I feel we have plenty to prove in 2016.”

At times, Dempsey has frustrated Essendon fans with clumsy disposals.

But Bombers list manager Adrian Dodoro said Dempsey could be invaluable next season as they try to improve their attack.

“Courtenay is an exceptional talent, he has speed and he also proved he can kick goals, which is an area of our game that needs to be strengthened this season,” Dodoro said.
