Dean Cox’s retirement and what it means

DEAN COX HAS DECIDED TO END HIS DECORATED 14-YEAR AFL CAREER AT THE END OF THIS SEASON

* Cox said he initially wanted to play on next year, but realised his body wouldn’t be up to the rigours of maintaining his elite standards.

* The 32-year-old will stay on as West Coast’s ruck coach next year. Cox says he’s looking forward to furthering his career as a coach.

* Cox’s retirement improves West Coast’s chances of re-signing Scott Lycett, who was being head hunted by Port Adelaide and several other clubs.

* Fellow fringe ruckman Callum Sinclair is also set to re-sign in the wake of Cox’s retirement.

* Cox is the second Eagle to retire this season following Darren Glass’ decision to hang up his boots.

* Cox has played a club record 286 games, but he is unsure if he will play out all six of West Coast’s remaining matches this year.
