Top Adelaide midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has dismissed speculation about his AFL playing future as ridiculous.

The night after the shock sacking of Crows coach Brenton Sanderson, Dangerfield was the first player from the club to speak publicly about what had happened.

He angrily denied speculation that Sanderson’s demise was player-driven.

At the end of his interview on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show, Dangerfield was asked about his own future.

Dangerfield, a native Victorian, was reminded of an interview earlier this year, when he said that as long as Sanderson was at Adelaide, he was happy to also stay there.

Dangerfield will quality for free agency at the end of next season, when he and fellow senior Crows Taylor Walker and Rory Sloane all come out of contract.

“I understand it (speculation), but it’s ridiculous because … it’s a full 12 months away,” he said.

“We love playing at the club.

“In terms of discussions regarding my contract, Sloaney’s and Tex’s, it’s premature.”

Dangerfield also said given current events at Adelaide, it was the wrong time to talk about his playing future.

“We’re in a transitional period with our coach and it’s not something that needs to be discussed,” he said.

“I love the city, I love the club, I love playing there and that’s all that needs to be said.”

Dangerfield admitted meeting with Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson in Melbourne, but said that was to discuss the coming International Rules Test against Ireland.

Clarkson will coach Australia in the Perth match on November 22.
