Club by club guide to the AFL trade window

CLUB-BY-CLUB GUIDE TO ALL THE POST-SEASON AFL MOVES

ADELAIDE

It’s impossible to replace Patrick Dangerfield but the Crows have licked their wounds and moved on with some handy captures. Troy Menzel improves an already dynamic forward line and two top-15 picks has Don Pyke’s side nicely poised for the draft.

In: Dean Gore (Geelong), Curtly Hampton (GWS), Paul Seedsman (Collingwood), Troy Menzel (Carlton).

Out: Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong), Sam Kerridge (Carlton).

Retired/delisted: Brodie Martin, Jack Osborn, James Podsiadly, Brent Reilly, Sam Siggins, Anthony Wilson.

Draft order: 9, 13, 71, 89, 107, 125.

BRISBANE

Forced into trading with the loss of James Aish, Matthew Leuenberger and Jack Redden but the addition of Tom Bell, Josh Walker and Ryan Bastinac should improve the Lions’ competitiveness in 2016. Expect key forward Josh Schache to arrive in the draft for pick No.2.

In: Tom Bell (Carlton), Jarrad Jansen (Geelong), Josh Walker (Geelong), Ryan Bastinac (North).

Out: Matthew Leuenberger (Essendon), Jack Redden (West Coast), James Aish (Collingwood).

Retired/delisted: Jed Adcock, James Aish, Jordon Bourke, Mitch Golby, Matt Maguire, Luke McGuane, Brent Staker.

Draft order: 2, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 78, 96, 114.

CARLTON

Pulled off a mega-deal for four GWS Giants but lost four players from their best 22 in a turbulent window. The Blues have the strongest hand of any club in the draft with the first pick among four top-20 selections.

In: Sam Kerridge (Adelaide), Lachie Plowman (GWS), Andrew Phillips (GWS), Jed Lamb (GWS), Liam Sumner (GWS).

Out: Tom Bell (Brisbane), Lachie Henderson (Geelong), Troy Menzel (Adelaide), Chris Yarran (Richmond).

Retired/delisted: Andrew Carrazzo, David Ellard, Cameron Giles, Blaine Johnson, Chris Judd, Fraser Russell, Matthew Watson.

Draft order: 1, 8, 11, 19, 59, 60, 113.

COLLINGWOOD

Nathan Buckley has completed an October midfield renovation, bringing in the elite talents of Adam Treloar and James Aish without selling the farm. The Magpies can be very pleased with their off-season efforts, which will fuel finals expectations for 2016.

In: Jeremy Howe (Melbourne), Adam Treloar (GWS), James Aish (Collingwood).

Out: Nathan Freeman (St Kilda), Ben Kennedy (Melbourne), Paul Seedsman (Adelaide).

Retired/delisted: Tony Armstrong, Sam Dwyer, Patrick Karnezis, Lachie Keeffe, Michael Manteit, Josh Thomas, Clinton Young.

Draft order: 27, 66, 77, 83, 84, 101, 119.

ESSENDON

The Bombers have milked Jake Carlisle for all the big man was worth and possibly then some, and have gained premiership experience through ex-Swan Craig Bird. Most importantly, new coach John Worsfold heads to the draft with two top five picks.

In: Matthew Leuenberger (Brisbane), Craig Bird (Sydney).

Out: Jake Carlisle (St Kilda), Jon Giles (West Coast), Jake Melksham (Melbourne).

Retired/delisted: Kurt Aylett, Paul Chapman, Lauchlan Dalgleish, Dustin Fletcher, Jason Winderlich.

Draft order: 4, 5, 24, 25, 57, 80, 98, 116.

FREMANTLE

Harley Bennell will bolster a forward line in need of invention but the club’s failure to land wantaway Giant Cam McCarthy is a bust. Eyes now turn to the future of Matthew Pavlich who might be encouraged to stay on without a new key forward joining the Dockers.

In: Harley Bennell (Gold Coast).

Out: Nil.

Retired/delisted: Jacob Ballard, Ryan Crowley, Josh Deluca, Paul Duffield, Max Duffy, Luke McPharlin, Craig Moller, Colin Sylvia, Tom Vandeleur.

Draft order: 22, 35, 61, 74, 92, 110, 128.

GEELONG

Ever the professional outfit, the Cats knew what they wanted and went and got it. The addition of Patrick Dangerfield throws Geelong back into the premiership mix and while they’ll be almost absent from the draft, Chris Scott will be delighted with his trade efforts.

In: Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide), Lachie Henderson (Carlton), Scott Selwood (West Coast), Zac Smith (Gold Coast).

Out: Dean Gore (Adelaide), Steve Johnson (GWS), Jarrad Jansen (Brisbane), Josh Walker (Brisbane), Dawson Simpson (GWS).

Retired/delisted: Sam Blease, James Kelly, Brad Hartman, Hamish McIntosh, Jared Rivers, Mathew Stokes, James Toohey.

Draft order: 67, 85, 103, 121.

GOLD COAST

The Suns can start again after losing two of their top talents in wantaway forwards Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell. Matt Rosa is a good, if surprising, capture but goals could be hard to come by in 2016.

In: Daniel Currie (North), Matt Rosa (West Coast).

Out: Harley Bennell (Fremantle), Charlie Dixon (Port), Zac Smith (Geelong).

Retired/delisted: Greg Broughton, Tyrone Downie, Jarred Ellis, Josh Hall, Louis Herbert, Andrew Raines, Timmy Sumner.

Draft order: 6, 16, 29, 56, 79, 97, 115.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Steve Johnson’s addition does something to counter the mass exodus at the Giants. At least the club has held onto promising talls Cam McCarthy and Adam Tomlinson. But eight departures – four alone to Carlton – is vast change in the GWS rooms in 2016.

In: Dawson Simpson (Geelong), Steve Johnson (Geelong).

Out: Curtly Hampton (Adelaide), Jacob Townsend (Richmond), Adam Treloar (Collingwood), Lachie Plowman (Carlton), Andrew Phillips (Carlton), Jed Lamb (Carlton), Liam Sumner (Carlton), Tomas Bugg (Melbourne).

Retired/delisted: Not yet announced.

Draft order: 10, 34, 43, 53, 55, 58, 63, 64, 65, 70, 95, 102.

HAWTHORN

The premiers missed out on Jake Carlisle, lost young talent Jed Anderson and have shedded three premieship winners to retirement or free agency but say they’re happy to head to the draft with two first-round picks for the first time in nine years.

In: Jake Fitzpatrick (Melbourne).

Out: Jed Anderson (North), Matt Suckling (Bulldogs).

Retired/delisted: Sam Grimley, David Hale, Jared Hardisty, Brian Lake, Alex Woodward.

Draft order: 15, 18, 48, 76, 112, 130.

MELBOURNE

The Demons have had a stunning trade period, ending up with two picks inside the top seven and strengthening their team with hard-nut Tomas Bugg and Jake Melksham. While Jeremy Howe’s leaping marks will be missed, Paul Roos will be delighted to have two top-10 draft picks.

In: Ben Kennedy (Collingwood), Tomas Bugg (GWS), Jake Melksham (Essendon).

Out: Jeremy Howe (Collingwood), Jack Fitzpatrick (Hawthorn), Jimmy Toumpas (Port).

Retired/delisted: Rohan Bail, Daniel Cross, Mark Jamar, Jordie McKenzie, Aidan Riley.

Draft order: 3, 7, 46, 50, 82, 94, 100, 118.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Brad Scott might have paid overs for untested Hawk Jed Anderson but the 21-year-old comes with a great reputation from the Hawks and injects youth into their midfield. Improved their draft picks but largely sat back after a busier 2014 trade week.

In: Jed Anderson (Hawthorn).

Out: Daniel Currie (Gold Coast), Ryan Bastinac (Brisbane).

Retired/delisted: Leigh Adams, Nathan Grima, Scott McMahon, Eric Wallace, Max Warren.

Draft Order: 17, 26, 28, 47, 73, 91, 109, 127.

PORT ADELAIDE

If Charlie Dixon stays fit this will prove a successful window for Port Adelaide, but that’s a big if. Has just 65 games in five seasons but the Power’s star fitness team back themselves to get the forward firing.

In: Jimmy Toumpas (Melbourne), Charlie Dixon (Gold Coast).

Out: Nil.

Retired/delisted: Kane Cornes, Daniel Flynn, Mitch Harvey, Tom Logan, Jarrad Redden, Sam Russell, Mason Shaw, Johann Wagner.

Draft order: 32, 49, 86, 104, 122,

RICHMOND

The Tigers held firm on not giving pick No.12 for Chris Yarran and got their man in the final half-hour. If they can keep the temperamental talent happy, Damien Hardwick will be happy with his trade window effort.

In: Jacob Townsend (GWS), Chris Yarran (Carlton).

Out: Nil.

Retired/delisted: Matt Arnot, Nathan Foley, Chris Newman, Chris Knights, Matt McDonough, Ricky Petterd.

Draft Order: 12, 52, 88, 106, 120, 124

ST KILDA

Paid a premium for Jack Carlisle but the club – overseas indiscretions not withstanding – are delighted to have their man. Have not lost any premium players in the off-season and should improve in 2016 off the back of their trade efforts.

In: Jack Carlisle (Essendon), Nathan Freeman (Collingwood).

Out: Nil.

Retired/delisted: Daniel Markworth, Tom Simpkin, Arryn Siposs, Adam Schneider, Spencer White.

Draft order: 14, 45, 68, 81, 99, 117.

SYDNEY

The Swans have their eye on academy talents and are likely to use the point values of their draft picks to bolster their squad. Callum Sinclair’s arrival makes up for the retirement of Mike Pyke but Lewis Jetta, Adam Goodes and Rhyce Shaw are tough to replace.

In: Callum Sinclair (West Coast), Michael Talia (Western Bulldogs).

Out: Craig Bird (Essendon), Lewis Jetta (West Coast),

Retired/delisted: Adam Goodes, Mike Pyke, Rhyce Shaw.

Draft order: 33, 36, 37, 44, 54, 69, 72, 90, 108, 126.

WEST COAST

The Eagles have probably broken even in the trade window, losing their vice-captain but gaining Jack Redden, trading away Matt Rosa for Swan speedster Lewis Jetta and swapping rucks. A lack of major change at the grand finalists is probably what Adam Simpson was looking for.

In: Jack Redden (Brisbane), Lewis Jetta (Sydney), Jon Giles (Essendon).

Out: Matt Rosa (Gold Coast), Scott Selwood (Geelong), Callum Sinclair (Sydney).

Retired/delisted: Will Maginness, Dylan Main, Rowen Powell, Beau Waters.

Draft order: 23, 31, 62, 75, 93, 111, 129.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Absolute non-players in trading but gained a premiership star through free agency. Matt Suckling should come into their best 22 after arriving from Hawthorn, while Luke Beveridge will feel like he’s gained a new player in Tom Liberatore, who missed the entire 2015 season.

In: Matt Suckling (Hawthorn).

Out: Michael Talia (Sydney).

Retired/delisted: Ayce Cordy, Sam Darley, Matthew Fuller, Brett Goodes, Jordan Kelly, Daniel Pearce.

Draft order: 20, 21, 30, 51, 87, 105, 123.
