Cassisi’s last game confirms retirement

Dom Cassisi doesn’t know what he’s going to do.

Instead of being “spoon-fed” a calendar as an AFL player, the Port Adelaide stalwart is now retired.

“I haven’t thought too much about tomorrow,” Cassisi said after his last AFL game, a three-point win against Melbourne on Sunday.

“It’s going to be a little bit strange.

“We get spoon-fed a little bit – our diaries are there, you look at it, and you just go into recovery mode and get ready for next week.

“So this is going to be a bit different for me.”

The 31-year-old gathered 14 disposals in his 228th and last AFL match, saying his display justified his decision to quit.

“I was cramping up at the end of the first quarter, I reckon,” he said.

“It confirmed in my mind that the game has gone past me and I’m battling.

“I can’t play four quarters of good footy, that is where it’s at.

“I was able to do a little bit, but the way our list has evolved, there are guys ready to step in and I look forward to seeing them doing it.”
