Buddy and Fyfe among AFL stars returning

Lance Franklin will play his first match of the year on Sunday, when Sydney host Fremantle at Drummoyne Oval.

Franklin, Adam Goodes, Ted Richards and Jarrad McVeigh were among the Swans stars called up to the squad that lost to Brisbane in Coffs Harbour last week.

Aaron Sandilands and Nat Fyfe, who last year won the AFLPA’s most valuable player award, are among the guns that the Dockers have drafted into their squad for the weekend’s pre-season match in Sydney.

Fyfe missed the side’s last-start win over Melbourne due to a hamstring injury, while Sandilands was rested.

Captain Robert Murphy, Luke Dahlhaus and Jack Macrae are among the high-profile Western Bulldogs that will not tackle Melbourne in Ballarat on Saturday.

Jack Watts and Jack Viney were named in the Demons’ 29-man squad, having missed Melbourne’s opening pre-season clash with Fremantle.

Port Adelaide will need to find a new skipper for their match against Richmond in Albury on Saturday, with captain Travis Boak and vice-captain Brad Ebert both left out of their squad.

Power ruckman Jarrad Redden will play his first competitive fixtures since round 10 of 2013.

Redden had shoulder, hip and knee surgery during 2013, then needed two knee operations in 2014.

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin will miss the weekend’s fixture, however Ivan Maric, Dustin Martin, Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Brett Deledio will all have their first hit-out of the pre-season.

Blues midfielders Chris Judd, Bryce Gibbs and Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury, Dane Swan and Travis Cloke will have a run in Sunday’s match at Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval.
