Brisbane coach Justin Leppitsch is turning up the volume on his under-fire AFL team.

The Lions trained at the Gabba on Thursday with recorded crowd noises playing on the venue’s PA system in preparation for a hostile reception from Carlton fans at Etihad Stadium in Saturday’s clash with the Blues.

Leppitsch says the technique is just one measure the club is taking in a bid to overcome their woeful away record.

The Lions have just one win so far this year, at home against Gold Coast, and face a Blues team on a high after their shock win over Geelong last weekend.

“We’re doing some different things out there today,” Leppitsch said.

“Get some crowd noise going and some different things to try and get us used to a hostile environment.

“A lot of it is between the player’s ability to think and concentrate through that pressure and still be able to perform that task.

“That doesn’t change no matter where you play.”

The Lions will be boosted by the return of captain Tom Rockliff from a hamstring injury, with Leppitsch confirming the skipper will be in the team.

Saturday’s clash is a far cry for the Blues from the last time these two teams met in round 20 last year when both were trying to avoid the wooden spoon.

While Brisbane are still struggling, the Blues are “red-hot” according to Leppitsch, a result he says of their core group growing in experience.

“They’re playing a lot of their experienced and trade-in talent so it makes them older and more experienced,” he said.

“They’re probably making less mistakes because of that.

“Younger players, as we know, are not as consistent and they probably haven’t exposed as many of their young talent as we have.

“I think we’re slightly different as far as that goes.”
