Boo Goodes and you’re racist: Ross Lyon

Fremantle AFL coach Ross Lyon says anyone who boos Adam Goodes from this point on is a racist and a bigot.

Goodes has been granted indefinite leave from the Swans after being worn down by relentless booing from opposition fans, which he believes is racially motivated.

Lyon has been appalled by the treatment dished out to Goodes, who is a champion of the game and a role model in the community.

“There’s no ambiguity anymore,” Lyon said on Friday.

“So from here, if you continue to boo Adam Goodes, well, you’re a racist and you’re a bigot.

“And that would take this country back to the White Australia policy in 1967.

“It’s offensive what’s occurring, and it’s wrong.

“Ignorance is no excuse.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott also says fans who boos Goodes are bigots.

Richmond and the Western Bulldogs will wear their indigenous jumpers this round in a show of support to Goodes.

And the skippers of all 18 clubs released a joint statement urging fans to cut out racial vilification.

“What’s starting to come out is some collective key messaging – that we’re all on the same page,” Lyon said.
