Essendon have ousted James Hird as coach of the embattled club after his failure to arrest the Bombers’ alarming slide down the AFL ladder.
The Bombers announced the move in an open letter to fans on the club’s website, saying Hird resigned after talks with the club’s board.
Essendon chairman Paul Little wrote that while Hird would always be remembered as club champion, the side had failed this season.
