Blues’ Menzel signs new deal

Rising Star nominee Troy Menzel has signed a two-year deal with Carlton that will see him remain at the AFL club until the end of 2016.

The exciting 19-year-old forward was recruited to Carlton with pick No.11 in the 2012 national draft.

Since making his debut early last season, Menzel has played 23 AFL games and kicked 30 goals.

This season he starred in their thrilling round six win over West Coast by kicking the winning goal.

He earned a Rising Star nomination in round 16, after booting two goals and taking a career-high eight marks in Carlton’s win over St Kilda.

Carlton’s general manager of football operations Andrew McKay says he’s delighted Menzel will be staying at Carlton.

“Troy has certainly been an exciting player to watch grow and develop, he’s still only 19 so we believe he has a very bright future ahead,” McKay said.

Menzel joins Sam Rowe, Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Andrew Walker, Bryce Gibbs, Michael Jamison, Tom Bell, Dylan Buckley, and Chris Yarran in re-signing with Carlton this season.
