Beams extends AFL contract with Lions

Brisbane has signed midfielder Claye Beams to a one-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old has endured an injury-plagued 12 months, spending most of the 2013 AFL season sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Beams hasn’t got off to a good start this year, injuring his foot in a practice match against Sydney.

Surgery on the injury has left him sidelined for approximately four weeks.

Despite his injury woes, Lions football manager Dean Warren says the club has faith in Beams.

“We are continuously impressed by his absolute professionalism, particularly during his rehabilitation process,” Warren said.

“A one year contract extension is a great result for both Claye and the Brisbane Lions and we look forward to seeing him back out on the park, playing the footy we know he is capable of.”

Pick 76 in the 2009 rookie draft, Beams has gone on to make 15 appearances for the Lions.
