AFL says don’t buy from scalpers

Top AFL official Mark Evans has one piece of advice for any fan tempted to buy a ticket from a scalper – don’t.

There are reports of big prices being quoted on the internet for tickets to Friday’s sold-out Anzac Day blockbuster between Collingwood and Essendon at the MCG.

“I have very, very simple strategy for this – don’t pay the price, then that person can’t sell the ticket,” AFL operations manager Evans said.

“Don’t buy (from) someone who’s trying to scalp you a ticket.”

Evans said fans should instead take out club memberships to give them a better chance of gaining admission to high-demand matches.

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire was amazed when told scalpers were quoting prices as high as $6000 for the Anzac Day match.

“Six thousand? I’ve got one here if someone wants it,” McGuire said.

Fans were furious when the AFL changed admission rules on Monday ahead of the Geelong-Hawthorn match at the MCG.

A few hours before the match, the league said club members would not have to pay extra to attend the game after all.
