The Blues take on the Melbourne Demons on Saturday, 1.45PM at the MCG. Carlton are big favourites to win here, with the Demons not yet ready to dig themselves out of a big dark hole. While new boss Paul Roos is showing some promise, it’s anyone’s guess how long it will take to turn the Demons around. This is no sure thing for the Blues, however, with both teams winless after three rounds and Carlton having played some pretty ordinary football last weekend. While you would have to be very brave to back the Demons, this could end up closer than many people think.

Jarrad Waite’s up-and-down AFL career has hit a new pothole, with the key forward leading four Carlton omissions for the must-win game against Melbourne.

Waite, fellow forward Jeff Garlett, Simon White and Tom Bell were axed as the Blues seek an immediate lift from last Sunday’s humiliating 81-point loss to arch rivals Essendon.

Patrick Cripps, Carlton’s No.1 pick in the national draft last year, will make his AFL debut.

Veteran Heath Scotland, Levi Casboult and Kane Lucas also come into the side as the Blues chase their first win of the season on Saturday at the MCG.

The Demons will start outsiders, but have gained a potential major boost with the inclusion of key forward Chris Dawes.

It will be the first time this season that the winless Demons have had a genuine key forward in the team.

Dawes has been out of action because of a calf problem.

Jesse Hogan is yet to return from injury and Mitch Clark retired earlier this week because of depression.

Jordie McKenzie is also back for Melbourne, while Shannon Byrnes and Jack Fitzpatrick were dropped.

Richmond will regain ruckman Shaun Hampson from injury for Friday night’s crucial blockbuster against Collingwood.

The Tigers dropped Jake King and Orren Stephenson, while Ricky Petterd has a groin injury.

Matt Arnot was recalled and Sam Lloyd was promoted for his first senior game.

Collingwood named Nick Maxwell and Dayne Beams, who have spent the week recovering from ankle injuries.

Sam Dwyer (knee) and Taylor Adams (suspension) are the omissions for Jarrod Witts and Josh Thomas.

West Coast and Brisbane have made five changes apiece for their Saturday games.

The Eagles have lost captain Darren Glass (hip) for the daunting away challenge against Geelong, who have regained Corey Enright from an ankle injury.

Mark LeCras (arm), Chris Masten (hamstring) and Luke Shuey (suspension) are unavailable and Callum Sinclair was dropped.

Sam Butler, Josh Hill, Sharrod Wellingham, Scott Lycett and Dominic Sheed will take their spots.

The Cats also regained Taylor Hunt, but Mitch Brown has an ankle injury and Jackson Sheringham was dropped.

Brisbane lost Daniel Merrett (suspension), Daniel Rich (knee) and Josh Green (leg) for the Adelaide Oval game against Port Adelaide and dropped Rohan Lester and Michael Close.

Nick Robertson and Tom Cutler were named for their AFL debuts and former Collingwood player Jackson Paine will play his first game as a Lion.

Ryan Harwood and Rohan Lester will also come into the side.

* Port Adelaide dropped John Butcher, as well as losing Angus Monfries (hamstring) and Chad Wingard (ankle), while Cam O’Shea and Aaron Young were recalled and Sam Gray will play his first senior match.

* Hawthorn will regain captain Luke Hodge from a groin injury for Saturday night’s away game against Gold Coast.

* The Western Bulldogs lost Jordan Roughead (shoulder) and Luke Dahlhaus (calf) for Saturday’s Canberra game against Greater Western Sydney.

Jason Johannisen was dropped and the `Dogs brought in Koby Stevens, Jason Tutt and Tom Young.
