AFL contract extension for Hombsch

Port Adelaide key defender Jack Hombsch has been rewarded for a breakout first season at Port Adelaide with a contract extension that will see him remain at the AFL club until the end of 2017.

The former Greater Western Sydney backman played 24 games last season, taking his career tally to 39.

Coach Ken Hinkley said the new deal was just reward for a player who took his game to a new level in 2014.

“Jack’s form really reflects that of the team, he’s worked really hard on his game and his confidence has grown from there,” Hinkley said.

“He can play on talls or mid-size forwards and become an integral part of our backline structure.”

The 21-year-old Hombsch played all three of the Power’s finals in 2014 and missed only one game for the season, due to injury.
