The AFL will provide $4 million for the next stage of Geelong’s Simonds Stadium redevelopment.
The contribution to the fourth stage of the ground’s redevelopment matches the commitment from the Cats.
The $90 million upgrade will involve the replacement of the Brownlow and Jennings grandstands.
“The fourth stage … will strengthen the venue as an AFL location, but will also provide Geelong with the ability to attract other key events such as Big Bash cricket, concerts and high-level matches in other sports,” said AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.
The redevelopment also has State Government funding and the Cats hope to start work at the end of this season.
