Geelong coach Chris Scott has extended his contract with the Cats until the end of the 2017 AFL season.

The fourth-year coach, who guided the Cats to a flag in his first season, had been contracted until the end of 2015 before agreeing to a two-year extension.

Scott, 38, has coached the Cats to a 15-4 record in 2014 as Geelong prepare for a fourth consecutive finals campaign under the two-time Brisbane premiership player.

“I’m really committed to Geelong long-term, and this just formalises that,” Scott told the club’s website on Wednesday.

“I think the club is happy and I’m certainly happy with the situation.

“This is a great place to be and I enjoy working with our players, coaches and staff.”

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said Scott had proved to be an astute coach.

“He has been committed to ensuring the team can continue to challenge for the premiership while at the same time introducing young players to ensure we regenerate as experienced players retire,” Cook said.

“To have successfully been able to manage this has been a tribute to Chris and his staff.”
