AFL banana-thrower hit with SA Police fine

South Australia Police have fined the woman who threw a banana towards indigenous Adelaide AFL player Eddie Betts.

The Port Adelaide member, who has not been named, offended the football community with her racist act and the Power have banned her attending the club’s matches indefinitely.

She also broke the law.

“As a result of standard inquiries made by police, an expiation notice for disorderly behaviour (licensed premises) totalling $543 has been issued to a 27-year-old woman from the southern suburbs,” a police statement issued on Tuesday read.

“The woman has also been issued with a police barring order for six months.”

Port Adelaide will enrol the woman in their cultural awareness program, which will involve indigenous players on their AFL list.
