AFL 2014 Round 4 preview, tips and odds

Melbourne may be facing another winless team in Carlton this weekend but it’s far from a 50/50 match, with the Blues priced at $1.17 with online bookmaker sportsbet to beat the Demons ($4.75) and keep their season from Hell rolling on.

The news gets worse for the Dees, who have firmed from $1.67 to $1.40 to win the Wooden Spoon.

In other notable betting movements:

· Richmond v Collingwood: Punters are tipping the pressure will continue to mount on Damien Hardwick and his Tigers ($2.25), with more than five times the money coming for Collingwood ($1.62) in the Friday night clash.

The Hawks are the value team of the round against the Suns at $1.30
The Hawks are the value team of the round against the Suns at $1.30

· Carlton v Melbourne: Hard to pick a winner in this one given they have both been terrible, but punters are willing to give the Blues one last chance, with the money coming in seven to one in favour of Carlton ($1.17).

· Port Adelaide v Brisbane: Its only early days but there is already a heap of money for the Power despite their short odds of $1.12. No love at all for the Lions.

· GWS v Western Bulldogs: The Giants may be on a roll, but punters are tipping the Dogs will be too good this weekend, with six times the money coming on the young pups over the Giants

· Gold Coast v Hawthorn: The $1.30 the Hawks are priced at has been identified as the value of the round and punters have jumped on. They have been the best backed team of the round to date.

· Geelong v West Coast: Punters are jumping on the $2.70 on the Eagles despite this one being played at The Cattery, with Geelong $1.44.

· Sydney v North Melbourne: North Melbourne’s ($2.85) impressive win over Port hasn’t been enough to convince punters, with three times the money coming on the Swans ($1.40) after they recorded their first win of the year.

· St Kilda v Adelaide: This has been the least attractive game of the round for punters with very little interest.

· Fremantle v Essendon: Punters aren’t scared to take on Freo ($1.65) at home. All of the money has been for Essendon at $2.15.

· Libba firms for Brownlow: Gary Ablett is into $4.00 for the Brownlow, but punters are looking elsewhere and have identified Tom Liberatore as the value bet. The young Dog was $81 at the start of the year and is into $34. His former teammate Callan Ward is also a big firmer, in from $251 at the start of the year into $34.
