Preview:

ADELAIDE may have broken its 2014 duck last weekend against St Kilda, but this looms a much tougher match than its previous encounters with Greater Western Sydney. The Crows have won each of their three games against the Giants by an average of 100 points, but this is a more mature Giants outfit as shown by their two wins already this year. Adelaide’s last showing at its home ground was an embarrassing 63-point loss to the Sydney Swans – it’ll be desperate to atone for its loyal fans.

LAST THREE TIMES
R7, 2013, Adelaide 29.13 (187) d GWS Giants 7.10 (52) at Spotless Stadium
R16, 2012, Adelaide 27.16 (178) d GWS Giants 8.11 (59) at Spotless Stadium
R4, 2012, Adelaide 13.18 (96) d GWS Giants 7.8 (50) at AAMI Stadium

THE SIX POINTS
1. In 2013 the Giants’ average losing margin was 72 points, in 2014 their two defeats have been by an average of 17 points.

2. In the Crows’ 135-point thrashing of the Giants in 2013 they had more disposals (435-320), more marks (148-104), more scoring shots (40 to 15) and more inside 50s (67 to 42).

3. Tom Lynch booted a career high 10 goals in that win – the first double-figure haul by a Crows player since Tony Modra booted 13 in round one, 1994.

4. One area in which the Giants have struggled in 2014 is marks inside 50, averaging only 7.5 a game. The Crows are equal fifth with 12 a game.

5. The Giants are the number one team in 2014 for hit-outs and clearances; they average 58.7 hit-outs and 47.5 clearances.

6. Giants co-captain Callan Ward is the club’s highest ranked player according the Official AFL Player Ratings. He comes in at No. 39, followed by Heath Shaw at No. 63.
