Ablett injury decision could take 2 days

Gold Coast say it could take another two days to determine how long AFL superstar Gary Ablett will be sidelined by his dislocated shoulder.

Ablett underwent scans on Monday but the club later said they would seek further specialist opinion on the dual Brownlow Medallist’s case in the coming days.

Ablett is expected to be out for a minimum of three weeks and could face season-ending reconstruction surgery after dislocating his left shoulder in Saturday night’s stirring AFL win over Collingwood at Metricon Stadium.

Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft said the Suns were “still in the early stages of diagnosing the injury”.

“Upon review of the scans, Ablett and the GC Suns medical team have agreed to seek further specialist opinion in the coming days to assist in determining the extent of the injury, and most appropriate treatment,” he said in a statement.

“Over the next 24 to 48 hours our medical staff will engage specialists who will work with them to ensure the full extent of the injury is established and the most appropriate form of treatment is provided.”
