25,000 crowd hopes at AFL pre-season final

A crowd of 25,000 or more for the pre-season cup final between Adelaide and West Coast at AAMI Stadium would be a good result, says AFL boss Andrew Demetriou.

The Crows lobbied hard to have Saturday’s match played at AAMI Stadium after finishing on top of the ladder in the pre-season competition.

The club was concerned the game would be staged interstate in a bid to attract more spectators.

But Demetriou said it wasn’t really a tough decision given the factors involved, including the travel commitments for both sides.

“Also there hasn’t been a final in Adelaide for quite a while and I think that weighed heavily on our decision,” Demetriou told reporters on Wednesday.

“And Adelaide, besides finishing on top of the table, also had the highest percentage and I think you’ve got to reward a club on that basis.”

Demetriou urged Crows’ fans to turn out in force and was confident of good numbers despite the game being televised live in Adelaide.

“I think anything upwards of 25,000, we’d be pretty pleased with,” he said.
