Classy horses to have exhibition gallops

Some of trainer Tony McEvoy’s spring carnival hopefuls including Alpine Eagle will ramp up preparations with raceday gallops in Adelaide.

Australian Guineas runner-up Alpine Eagle will gallop with stablemate Big Memory between races at Morphettville on Saturday while new acquisition Bull Point will gallop with Sysmo.

“They have been going really nicely at home and I just thought that it would really stimulate them to get them away from home and give them a raceday experience,” McEvoy said.

“All being well they will trial the following Friday at Morphettville and that will help me decide where I’ll be stepping them out.”

The Paul Beshara-trained multiple Group One winner Happy Trails will also gallop between races in a work-out with Go Indy Go from the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas stable.

Happy Trail and 2014 Champagne Stakes winner Go Indy Go could meet again in the Group Three Spring Stakes a week later.

McEvoy is considering the Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes on August 15 at Caulfield or the Group One Memsie Stakes two weeks later at the same track as the first-up options for Alpine Eagle, the winner of four of his six starts including the Group Two Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield in February.

McEvoy, meanwhile, has a runner in Darwin on Saturday with Underestimation contesting the $135,000 Palmerston Sprint (1200m) with Sydney’s premier jockey Hugh Bowman on board.

Underestimation has had his past two starts in Darwin and finished fifth both times.

“His first run was OK and his second was very good. I’m looking for a bit more luck tomorrow,” McEvoy said.
